James Baldwin at the Jefferson County courthouse in Birmingham, Alabama, during the trial of J. B. Stoner.
Stoner was convicted of the 1958 bombing of Bethel Baptist Church. He was sentenced to ten years in prison, but he appealed and evaded the verdict, ultimately serving only three and a half years.
