Students setting candles at the base of Denny Chimes at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, after an evening candlelight march to protest the recent killings of students at Kent State and Jackson State.

After the march to Denny Chimes, the demonstrators proceeded to the Student Union building, where they held a meeting despite the campus-wide ban on large student assemblies. State troopers arrested 37 students when the group refused to disperse.
