Caliph Washington and his attorney, David Hood, in a courtroom at the Jefferson County courthouse in Bessemer, Alabama, during his third trial for the 1957 death of a Lipscomb police officer.

His other attorney, Orzell Billingsley, is seated on the right. By 1970, Washington had been tried and convicted twice for murder, but both decisions were overturned. Though tried and found guilty a third time in April 1970, he was finally released from prison in March 1971.
