On October 30, 1967, Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph Abernathy, Wyatt Tee Walker, and A. D. King flew to Birmingham from Atlanta to serve a five-day prison sentence that had been ordered during civil rights protests in 1963. (In 1967 the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled that they had to serve their time in jail.) |
