Betty Lou Jones, an exotic dancer at the Blue Note Lounge in Birmingham, Alabama.
Jones, who performed under the stage name of "Velvet Blaze," was arrested for indecency in December 1967 and charged a $100 fine. She fought the conviction in court for two years, ultimately losing when the Alabama Supreme Court refused to hear her case.
