This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a cathedral with a Romanesque facade done by Bernard A. Webb sometime between 1917 and 1942. The painting shows the cathedral with its multiple arches and columns around its three sets of doors with stone carvings of saints and angels above the doors, other arches and columns, windows, moldings, and statues of cats and winged horses surrounded by trees and landscaping. The cathedral has sloping roofs over the wings with a second story over the main portion that has a round window and a peaked roof. There is a priest standing to the right of the main doors. The painting is placed within framing art of two columns and two crosses with an outline of the facades, chalice, crown, red cloth, and stained glass windows of saints and angels in the foreground. There are two labels in the upper left corner that read: "School of Architecture Architectural Renderings, RG 457, Original number 90" and "90." In the lower right corner is the artist's signature, an Alabama Polytechnic School of Architecture stamp, and a silver star. The painting is in good condition and is encapsulated. |
