Summary: | This image is a pencil conceptual drawing of four different types of arches done by J.L. Steffens sometime between 1917 and 1942. The drawing is divided into four equal quadrants, each of which shows two arches in a particular style with their columns and architectural moldings. Below the columns on each drawing are shaded areas that show the shape and area of the columns. The upper left shows the rustic arch type, the upper right shows the Roman arch type, the lower left shows the Florentine arch type, and the lower right shows the Romanesque arch type. In the lower right corner are two labels which read: "School of Architecture, Architectural Renderings, RG 457, Original Number 70, 'Types of arches" (from Columbia Univ.), J.L. Steffens" and "70." In the lower left corner is a handwritten inscription which reads: "J.L. Steffens, 2nd Class? Design, Columbia University." The drawing is in fair condition with some discoloration in the lower left corner and is encapsulated.
