description |
This photograph is incorrectly labeled (presumably in the hand of Virginia Durr), "Edgar Foster, son of V. C. and S. J. Foster, cadet at Davidson College, N.C. 187-?" Edgar's July 1873 obituary says he attended "State University" (University of Alabama), but the Davidson College Archives has no record of his ever attending that school. His older brother, Robert M. Foster, did graduate from Davidson in 1871 and moved to St. Louis in 1873, where he later began a law partnership with John J. Meier (noted as the photographer of this image). This photo could be a copy photograph of Edgar, or it could actually be an image of his younger brother, Arthur, who graduated from Davidson in 1877. |
